Cacophony is a sculptural installation that explores themes of silence, absence, and place. The work combines collaged images of the artist’s studio space with white envelopes and laser-cut ear shapes made from felt, steel, wood, and acrylic perspex. The ear forms, inspired by Surrealism and René Magritte’s ear paintings, introduce anthropomorphic body fragments that blur the boundary between body, object, and perception. These fragmented organs evoke listening, memory, and the traces of voices that remain unheard, while the varied materials suggest different ways of receiving and interpreting sound, presence, and experience.

Local Cornwall postcards are incorporated as symbols of communication, connection, and the act of sending messages across distance. The envelopes function as an archive, containing fragments of memory and correspondence, while also symbolising what is hidden, lost, or left unsaid. Installed across the gallery floor, the work appears as though messages are emerging from the ground itself, inviting reflection on how place holds silence and meaning.
